Countering the imbalance of frum Blogs

$

Who are the frum blogs? We hear so much about the frum bloggers, the fear that they impose on rabbonim, the bashing of yiddishkeit and torah etc. Who are they and what is their agenda? A look through blogosphere reveals a few categories, yet there is an imbalance that must be countered. In the first category, you have lashon horah, rechilus, and anything that defames the torah and frum yidden. You have left leaning blogs that will not miss an opportunity to be mevazeh gedolim and yiddishkeit.

The scene plays itself out in shuls all across the world each and every shabbos. The baal koreh begins to lein. He makes a mistake and he dosent just get corrected, but gets pounced on by certain individuals. They will yell out for no reason even at words that were pronounced correctly. That in essence is what the bloggers are. They stand guard doing nothing while listening to someone lein, someone living his life proactively going about his business. Rabbonim and organizations go about their way being constructive and doing good, and then the bloggers are there waiting for that small mistake, that little hiccup and there they go pouncing on someone elses missfortune.

We all have a bit of blogger in us
. However, the sole purpose of some of these blogs is just to take someones mistake and broadcast it while capatalizing on yenems cheshbon. Not all blogs are like this. B''H recently there is a movement for lashon free blogging right leaning with healthy debate, yet having respect and kavod to the gedolim. Unfortunately there is an imbalance as there are still  many blogs that are left leaning and bashing gedolim and frumkeit. We have to counter them, refute them, and make them irrelevant.

A reason for the imbalance is simple. The Torah and yeshiva community are not active on the world wide web. We are not putting our best and brightest resources to blogosphere. They are learning in botei medrash instead or other askanus. The more MO crowd does have their top talent  on blogosphere, which creates an unfair imbalance. We must counter it but not with our yeshivaleit. The frum newspaper editors should establish an online forum and website with the right torah hashkafa.

End of an era Mrs. Hinda Tress A''H almanah of Reb Mike Tress Z'TL

Read article in  hapardes after the petirah of Reb Mike Tress zt"l.

From Hamodia - May 26th issue.
The petirah of Mrs. Hinda (Edith) Tress, sadly, marks the end of an era. This matriarch of an empire of Torah, askanus and chessed exemplified the ideal ezer k’negdo and eim b’Yisrael. She encouraged her husband, the legendary Reb Elimelech Gavriel (Mike) Tress, zt”l, in his relentless hatzalah work, youth leadership and building of a strong and proud Orthodoxy in America.
Firmly sharing his values, she stood by him as he exchanged the life of a well-to-do businessman for that of full-time osek b’tzarchei tzibbur b’emunah,
mortgaging all his personal assets — which could have engendered a comfortable life for their large family — to help Agudas Yisrael grow in strength and viability, doing more and more to serve the individual Jew and the broader klal.

Mrs. Tress shared her husband’s emunas chachamim; her reverence for the Gedolei Torah who often graced their home, and whose decisions guided their lives, matched his. While Mr. Tress traveled abroad for hatzalah work, met with Roshei Yeshivah and askanim on burning matters of the klal, and engaged in countless projects — from raising funds for refugee children in Eretz Yisrael, to facilitating kosher food packages for Jewish American servicemen, to seeking suitable sites for Camps Agudah and Bnos — she raised their family and managed their home, thereby enabling him to do his vital work secure in the knowledge that his children were well cared for, that his worthy partner in life was capably at the helm on the home front.

Mrs. Tress, née Bagry, was born 98 years ago. She grew up in Philadelphia as part of an extended family that was known for maintaining an uncompromising Torah-true stance when most of American Jewry was shedding Yiddishkeit in favor of acculturation. Her father passed away when Hinda was young and her uncle, Reb Kalman Drebin, z”l, became her father figure.

Hinda went to public school and received her Torah chinuch at home, since no afternoon Talmud Torah met Uncle Kalman’s exacting standards. He would not allow the children to be educated by teachers whose personal Yiddishkeit was lacking.

Instead of public high school, she attended a girls-only business school, acquiring skills that served her well.

The wedding of Mike Tress and Edith Bagry, held in 1939 at the Empire Mansion in Brownsville, Brooklyn, marked the beginning of a new bayis ne’eman b’Yisrael, one in which 11 children, each of whom would ultimately contribute much to Klal Yisrael in his or her own way, would be raised al pi derech Yisrael Saba. Mrs. Tress’s choice to wear a sheitel was an anomaly at the time, as was the couple’s decision to have separate seating at the wedding. They were pioneers, in the noblest sense of the word.

Reb Elimelech Gavriel Tress was niftar in 5527/1967. For 47 years, his wife continued to live as the refined and pleasant ovedes Hashem that she was. Her emunah, tefillah, savlanus and ne’imus were living lessons. Her empathy and understanding of people were deeply-rooted. Her einiklach esteemed and adored her; Baba Tress was their queen, and it was an indisputable honor to be in her presence.

Summers, after her workweek, she spent Shabbos at the bungalow colony where several of her children stayed; they animatedly vied with one another for the privilege of hosting Baba. For the rest of those in the colony — who treasured her as well, relishing her pleasant company and savoring her abundant brachos — it was an awesome, unforgettable phenomenon.

When her son, Harav Avraham Gershon Tress, z”l, son-in-law of Harav Chayim Mordechai Katz, zt”l, an outstanding talmid of Yeshivas Telshe, Cleveland, and later a Rosh Yeshivah at Yeshivas Kol Yaakov, Monsey, suffered from a devastating disease, she was a bulwark of strength to the family. It was only after his passing that she allowed herself the release of copious tears.

She illuminated her surroundings with the golden light of her ahavas Yisrael; her innate wisdom; her tznius and humility. Even in her last years, when she was frail and her children cared for her, constantly and devotedly, that love and light exuded from her. Her passing brings a loss that is keenly felt by the thousands who were privileged to know her.

Mrs. Tress is survived by, ybl”c, her brother, Harav Yidel Ackerman of Yerushalayim; sons, Reb Shmuel Boruch, Reb Tzvi, and Reb Mendel; daughters, Henie Meisels, Eska Reidel, Leah Bloch, Donya Pichey, Shevy Jundef, Devorah Tropper and Basie Rosenblatt; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who follow her illustrious path.

Yehi zichrah baruch.

Asifa for mechanchim
Hundreds of Mechanchim and rebbeim came out to the Garden state exhibition center in Somerset NJ to hear words of guidance and chizuk from Gedolei Yisrael. The Asifa was attended by many  mechanchim  and rebbeim who heard divrei hisorerus from Rav Moshe Green, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Yeshiva D’Monsey; Rav Chaim Leib Epstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Zichron Meilech in Brooklyn; Rav Ephraim Wachsman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Meor Yitzchok of Monsey; and Rav Dovid Olewsky. Rav Avrohom Yosef Rosenblum, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Shaarei Yosher of Boro Park, had been on the schedule but did not address the gathering.

The purpose of the event was to give hadracha and strengthen areas that are lacking in the transmission of the mesorah. Emphasis was stressed on infusing the classroom with yiddishkeit stressing the emunah and bitachon aspect of the weekly parsha. Learning with a bren of yiddeshkeit making brachos with kavanah. In  addition it was asked by all to improve and work on their yiras shomayim as that is the only tool that will have siyata dishmaya when they teach Torah to their talmidim.

Rav Chaim Epstein spoke of the influence American culture has on us especially in today's day and age he  gave some examples of the challenges we face today. We must combat it with the chinuch of derech yisrael sava. As an example the Rosh Yeshiva stated by Parshas Noach we teach all about the Teiva its measurements, the 2 pshatim in Tzohar, and many facts which is all a chelek of Torah. However  we must also focus on the reason why there was a mabul what hashem wanted that should also be stressed its also a chelek of the Torah.
Rav Moshe Green spoke how Rebbeim should focus on hashkafos not only on the academics.  He said over from Rav Aharon Kotler who was once asked weather all his talmidim understand his deep shiurim. Rav Aharon replied not all understand but the fire in which it is given over that is transmitted to the talmidim.
Rav Ephraim Wachsman closed out the evening and called on the Rebbeim to implement what was discussed at the asifa.

Mayor de Blasio (Video and speech below) paid tribute on Tuesday night to some of his strongest backers since his time as a Brooklyn councilman, blasting anti-Semitism
and defending Israel in front of ultra-Orthodox group Agudath Israel. Reb Shlomo Werdiger, Chairman of Agudath Israel of America introduced NYC mayor Bill de Blasio.

 from Agudath Israel on Vimeo.
De Blasio spoke at the group's 92nd annual dinner, which honored Brooklyn resident and wealthy real estate investor and landlord Rubin Schron.
Hizzoner touched on recent anti-Semitic attacks in Kansas, where three people were fatally shot outside of a Jewish community center, and in Belgium, where four people were killed near the Jewish Museum in Brussels.
"The danger of anti-Semitism lurks always...it lurks all over the world," he said. "You always would've thought that our friends in Europe would've learned something, but all over Western Europe, anti-Semitism is too alive and well."
He also mentioned anti-Semitic graffiti in Brooklyn, which "reminds us that people have to be taught tolerance, they have to be taught understanding. And when that's not good enough, our law enforcement personnel will do their job."
De Blasio lauded Commissioner Bratton and the NYPD for keeping New Yorkers safe against the threat of anti-Semitism and other bias attacks.
"Whenever they sense even the possibility of violence against the Jewish community, they swing into action," he said.
He painted himself as a staunch defender of Israel.
"The state of Israel does not have enough defenders in the world," he said. "I am honored to count myself among the number of those who will always rise to defend Israel."
De Blasio came under fire for giving a speech in January to right-leaning pro-Israel lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee, getting into trouble with liberal Jewish groups that supported him. The secret meeting, which was not listed on his public schedule, caused liberal Jews to get angry at de Blasio for aligning himself with the hardline group. source HERE

Close to 10,000 women came together last night in Boro park at the Bobover hall
to hear words of chizuk and practical advice on how to deal with the encroachment of the internet and modern Technology and its effects on our daily lives.
Embedded image permalinkThe woman's internet Asifa was attended by the  Skulener Rebbe and Rachmastrivka Rebbe. Drashos were delivered by the Mir Rosh yeshiva Rav Elya Brudny, Rav Efraim Glassman, The Viener Rav and Rav Mattisyahu Solomon Mashgiach of Beth Medrash Govoha Lakewood. Speakers stressed the importance of keeping the Jewish home with kedusha and tahara. The minimal one can do is use a  filter but even that is not enough. We must be educated and know the challenges that we and our children face. The event ended with the recital of the Tefilas hashela on erev Rosh Chodesh Sivan.

Man bites dog- A Satmar Chossid graduates Yeshiva university

The left leaning frum blogs are salivating about the story posted of a Satmar Chasid that through a twist of fate graduated from Yeshiva University undergraduate school. What a great story, finally a Satmar boy Bucks the trend of his chasidus he did something few young Chasidim do and went to YU to pursue a career and completed a degree in business management. It generated close to 100 comments on VIN and other websites with everyone taking potshots at Satmar how the insular community they worked so hard to create is falling apart in front of their eyes.

The story in itself is nothing new- this boy is not the first chosid to attend YU and wont be the last. There are chasidishe professors who teach at YU.
The bloggers paint a notion how accepting YU students are, they welcomed him with open arms, we are all inclusive to everyone. Meaning to say that since he is a Satmar chosid they really should have rejected him and distanced themselves from him. Did they forget how the Satmar Rebbe would let anyone into his home and give tzedaka to everyone even a yid with a kippah seruga! oh maybe he shouldn't have done that according to that thought.

Unfortunately the sinas chinom causes a simple story as this to be blown out of proportion and used to mock an entire Satmar ideology and kehilla.

The Novominsker Rebbe's Remarks at Agudath Israel Dinner: Ensuring the Jewish Future

At Agudath Israel of America's 92nd Anniversary Dinner earlier this week, Rabbi Yaakov Perlow, who is a member of Agudath Israel's Council of Torah Sages and serves as the Rosh Agudath Israel, delivered remarks that have been grossly mischaracterized and unjustly vilified in certain media reports.

Most objectionable is the statement in The New York Times that "Rabbi Perlow offered a shower of condemnation for Reform and Conservative Jews."  He did nothing of the sort.

Rabbi Perlow's focus was on Reform and Conservative Judaism, not on Reform and Conservative Jews - on ideologies, not on people.  Indeed, the main focus of his remarks was on a movement that calls itself Orthodox - "Open Orthodoxy" - yet has also crossed boundaries that have long established the parameters of normative Jewish practice and belief.

Rabbi Perlow was simply reiterating what Agudath Israel leaders have been stating since the founding of the organization nearly a century ago, and what painful demographic realities have made increasingly clear in recent years: that there is no Jewish future in ideological movements that have abandoned foundation principles of the Judaism of the ages.

Rabbi Perlow, and the community of Orthodox Jews who look to him as a leader, have nothing but love and concern for all Jews, regardless of their affiliation, regardless of how misled they may be by their religious leaders.

Precisely because of such love and concern, Agudath Israel believes that it is incumbent upon those who care about their fellow Jews and the Jewish future to call attention to the dangers of deviation from classical Judaism, to prevent what Rabbi Perlow referred to as Jews "fall[ing] into an abyss of intermarriage and assimilation." Such clarion calls are heartfelt expressions of Ahavat Yisrael, love for fellow-Jews, not its opposite Heaven forbid!

How to ensure the Jewish future is the most important challenge on the collective Jewish agenda today.  We hope and pray that all the attention generated by Rabbi Perlow's remarks will motivate serious people of good will and genuine Ahavat Yisroel to begin to confront that challenge, urgently and responsibly.

Novominsk Rebbe VS. frum bloggers

Novomisker Rebbe shlita
Following he words of truth spoken by the Novominsker Rebbe shlita at the Agudah Dinner, naturally the critics came out in full force. (As expected when truth hits home it its hard to stomach it). The media went after NYC mayor Bill de Blasio for not responding to the remarks, since he was there during the speech and spoke immediately afterwords. The self hating NY Times was quick to attack the mayor as did the NY daily news.
The problem is the bloggers and young activists with no hadracha, publicly shamed the Novominsker Rebbe and the Agudah for standing by. They know better than the gedolim!

A Political writer for the Yeshiva world news and JP updates  tweeted this:
"Orthodox Jews are equally offended. Agudath Israel should've known better. Why did mayor choose this event"he followed up in another tweet"
what I find more interesting is that Agudah is standing by remarks, calling criticism "crazy". This is not from the secular media this is our frum websites and blogs. On Vosizneias the yiddish sounding site the comments are calling the Rebbe senile (R"L). We must let the politicians and others know, that these so called activist, bloggers, self appointed spokespeople, and websites do not represent and were not appointed by anyone or organization of  the Torah orthodox Jewry. we will only be guided by gedolim and so will our representatives.
The Agudah responded to the criticism of the mayor,
“Rabbi Perlow did not disparage fellow Jews, but rather theologies that claim to be faithful to the Jewish religious tradition but are not. What he addressed were ideas and beliefs, not innocent Jews who may have been misled by the Zeitgeist and its blandishments.”

Oich mir a blogger! new low for frum blogs and website

Achdus Shtreimel
The website calls itself "the voice of the orthodox Jewish community" the yiddish sounding name lulls people and gives the appearance of a heimish site with right wing Torah hashkafos. You would think it is a site that has Rabbanim standing behind it, a site that would at least adhere to the basic halachos of Lashon Hora and kavod chachomim. Truth is, the orientation of that website is not right wing charedi at all. But a lot of people are misled by the name, take away the name and it's really no different than any other MO website. It happens to be run by chasidim who consider themselves enlightened, oifgeklert.

Just when you would think they cant reach a new low they keep on surprising you. Forget about their silly op-ed today to the Novominsker Rebbe and Agudah, for a second. Following the media circus around the drasha of the Novominsker Rebbe shlita at the Agudah Dinner they reached out to a fellow "Blogger" giving him a platform to issue his two cents on the Rebbes remarks. This is not a person in any position of leadership except for the fact that he has a blog. The website who usually rarely give the title of Rabbi to many Rabbonim and gedolim went out of their way to call this blogger with the title of "Rabbi" as if hes someone who has a right to give his opinion to the masses. That he is someone to be reckoned with. (yes he has semicha, but thats not the point). A blog that dosent miss the opportunity to publicize  the shortfalls and ills of frum yidden a blog that constantly criticizes Rabbonim, admorim and Roshei yeshiva-  that is who this anonymous run website goes to for an opinion.

It happens to be that this time he agreed with the words of the Novominsker rebbe, so what? does that mean anything that he agrees with the rebbe? who is he to agree? who is he to disagree? Bloggers became the leasders of klal yisrael? well it must be so if this website considers bloggers to have a deah.
Today they issued an op ed to the agudah that they are not doing enough about children that are going off the derech. WHO ARE THEY TO TELL THE RABBONIM WHAT TO DO. Let them look in the mirror first and stop with the constant chilul hashem and lashon hora, stop with the bizuy talmidei chachomim, stop with making fun of kol davar shebikduah, stop giving a platform to the haters of Torah, stop the sinas chinom, stop the non tzniusdik ads, try to be marbeh kavod shamayim not minimize it.
Oh your laughing out loud and wondering who am I to lecture them?? exactly that's my point!

Attacking the Frum community in the secular press

$

An article in the Jpost titled A Black sheep in the Haredi community interviews a Rabbi who takes on sensitive issues that the mainstream Rabbonim supposedly dont get involved with (at least publicly on the web). While discussing  a book addressed for safety concerns geared for the charedi community, the article lists a whole slew of so called dangers that are prevalent in the uneducated third world charedi community missing from the book.

"There is no mention of accidental poisonings from cleaning materials and of leaving buckets or tubs of water that could end up in a child’s drowning; the need for parents to prevent falls, especially by putting bars on windows and balconies; adult supervision of young children instead of a-bit-older ones’ taking care of their smaller siblings; avoiding sunburn; taking young children for all necessary vaccines; avoiding smoking, quitting smoking and teaching children and husbands not to smoke; how to keep teeth healthy and avoid tooth decay, including not putting small children to sleep with a bottle filled with sweet liquid; encouraging exercise by all family members; teaching about overweight and junk food and how to eat in a healthy way; never leaving young children alone in vehicles; and awareness of postpartum depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders and other psychological and psychiatric problems and where to get help."
Theses dangers are not specific for the charedi frum community, but the article in its appearance to depict charedim as third-world and not educated will give off an impression that these are serious issues that charedim are not well informed of. Some of these suggestions are based on freak accidents that took place. Its sad when a Rabbi does not object to these claims and HE actually agreeS to it, by saying according to the article "he could stress such preventive measures in future editions."

A better answer should have been the Charedi community does a great job educating and raising their children, but when you run to the secular press this is what the outcome is. He should defend the frum Torah community not attack them and support a bigoted lying article. As this rabbi himself tweeted he wasn't fond of being called a black sheep.
 Perhaps the paper is right.

Walk to your fridge, look at your calendar, check out your scheduler on your cell phone, the boxes are full and scribbled in with reminders for the many Simchas  and chasunah's during the months of June and July. Baruch hashem there are so many simchos in klal yisrael. We tend not to report on positive and good news. Yet how can we ignore the very fact that yidden are traveling every night to one, two, or even three weddings. Families are commuting throughout the Tri-state area, from Brooklyn to Lakewood, from Lakewood to Monsey, or from out of town. Many are traveling long road trips to or from the Midwest or other places out of town to attend a family simcha.

We are witnessing the continuation and constant building of klal yisrael. The continuation of the promise of lo yomushu mpi zaracha. Yes we are getting home very late and than have a wedding the next night again. Not to forget the Shabbos aufruf and the excited family get together for Shabbos Sheva Brachos.
Many yeshivos and mosdos are holding their annual fundraising dinners as well. We tend to take it for granted, however we must stop and pause and see what is going on around us. We should appreciate the kindness of hashem and to think about, and help those that are having a difficult time with shidduchim during theses times of Simcha.

The APP reports that organizers are planning on a drill that can tie up traffic to protest next year’s elimination of courtesy busing for students in fourth through 12th grades. The current BOE budget for next year, does not allocate funding for courtesy busing. Mosdos are asking parents to take to the streets in their cars this week on Wednesday and Thursday June 11, and 12. They notified the township to prepare for what may come in September at the beginning of the school year. We understand the ramifications that this might have on the township and are therefore giving ample time for the town to mobilize their resources to prepare for the upcoming drill,” wrote one of the organizers according to the APP.

The point is not merely a protest or any retribution as in the infamous bridgegate scandal, it is more of a drill to prepare for what will come in the beginning of the coming school year. It will mean over 10,000 students will be carpooled daily on the already congested roads of Lakewood. It is not only a Lakewood issue other NJ towns such as Teaneck, Passaic, Tenafly as well as school districts in Neighboring  NY state are experiencing similar challenges. Community leaders are hoping Trenton will hear the plight and bring about much needed change to the unique situation where most of the tax payers send their children to private schools which amounts to 30,000 students verses the 5,000 in the public school system. It is also an opportunity to bring up the conversation of vouchers for parents who wish to send their children to private schools. This action supposedly has the endorsement of the Roshei yeshiva and Rabbanim of Lakewood.

Lakewood Yeshiva Beth Medrash Govoha will excuse youngeleit who participate in shmiras hasdorim program (incentive for coming on time) due to the unique situation.

Unqualified therapists breaking apart mishpachos and families turning children against their parents.

Unqualified therapists, is a growing problem in the frum community which many blame the high divorce rate as a direct result of this. Over 15 Rabbonim in Boro park signed a letter on Erev Shavuos 5774 calling on klal yisrael to be very careful when choosing a therapist for their children or for shalom bayis. There have been many cases where unqualified, untrained and in many cases unlicensed counselors are providing therapy services to children with the wrong hashkafos and methods that are not al pi Torah. Children are taught to hate and disrespect their father, as a result there is no respect or kibbud av v'em. Instead of helping and fixing they are only worsening a situation. These therapists both men and woman, do not consult with any rabbonim they go about with secular hashkafos breaking apart yiddisheh famillies. The number of broken homes and alienated children is staggering. They are creating living yesomim.

Couples who come for shalom bayis counseling, instead of helping and placing shalom between husband and wife, these therapists are causing friction and divisiveness, resulting in many homes and botei yisrael to be destroyed, marriages broken apart. The staggering number of divorces R'L in the frum Torah community is partially to blame on these therapists who push for it without having any hadracha.

Parents should only send to therapists who have backing and those that Rabbonim can count on.

The pattern is simple write an article attacking the kollel system it gets posted on a "prestigious"blog and you get a pat on the back from your fellow bloggers and charedi apologists. You would expect these articles to be written by haters of Torah, by those who oppose the kollel system and lifestyle. Yet, the trend seems to be for former kollel guys blaming the system they came through pandering to the left out there in blogsphere. The easy punching bag is the charedi frum torah observant youngerman who toils in learning devotes his life to Torah, and keeps up the world.

These articles while pretending to worry about the future are nothing but an attack on the entire yeshiva world and kollel system. Attacking the concept how baalei Tzedaka and chesed are supporting klal yisrael. From cross currents:
They are worried about the system? But the larger question to me is: while Moshiach is close and may arrive at any moment, can we build a community based on that intuition?
Has the Orthodox Jewish community ever before been so top heavy, without a plan for sustainability? It a model built on a multitude of people dependent on a few rich benefactors and secular government handouts a responsible communal construct? Is growing a generation of men who study until they can’t, and need to then find a source of income without the self-confidence and skills they could have easily acquired had they taken the yoke of parnassah at a younger age, in the interest of the spiritual commitment of the next generation – and the one after it? Are mega-donations by fabulously wealthy people an economic plan? Why do we avoid a vision that creates and lionizes a strong middle class – honorable, hardworking balabatim who make a living in dignity by employing skills learned in academic environments worthy of the intellectualism with which we pride ourselves? Why instead do we promote the “spiritual selfie” – getting through our generation, without planning for those who come after us?
Do these writers not believe in Bitachon ?  Do they think that Kollel guys are not worried about their children? Do they realy believe that only they are amarter in prepairing their children for the future?
There is a havtacha of לא ימושו מפיך ומפי זרעך The bloggers and nay Sayers should do their job of supporting Torah.
