Rav Chaim kanievsky when told of the discovery of the 3 bodies said the 3 boys had a great zechus that thousands of Jews were mechazek and strengthened themselves with mitzvos because of them. The Tefillos that were said on behalf of the missing boys at the time did not go in vain it will be as a zechus and a merit for their Neshama.

Rav Aaron Leib Shteinman expressed grief and shock he said in yiddish A shrekliche zach he reiterated that the tefillos did not go in vain they will help for other things as well.. The rav said it was a nechama that the boys were brought to kevurah, and that klal yisral was brougt to a high level of chizuk as a result. The Rav called to be mechazek in Torah and not waste any time.

Agudath Yisroel  of America statement
Agudath Israel of America joins Jews and civilized people the world over in anguish and agony over the news of the vicious murders of the three boys kidnapped on June 12, Naftali Fraenkel Gil-ad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach, Hy”d. This horrific act is, in the end, not a crime against Israel or Jews alone, but against humanity  in both senses of the word. It bespeaks the deepest and most revolting inhumanity imaginable, the seizing of innocent, idealistic young people and the casual snuffing out of their lives and futures. Hamas and its allies, which now include the Palestinian Authority, are ultimately responsible for these premeditated, heinous murders. The hatred and incitement that have characterized so much of the campaign to establish a new Arab state alongside Israel are what have yielded these young lifeless bodies, and all the death and destruction born of Arab terrorism over the years.  There are those who believe that all people are, deep down, good. Hamas and its friends, along with other terrorist groups and rogue nations like Iran, give the lie to that lovely but naïve fantasy. It is our hope that the nations of the free world and their leaders fully confront that fact and comprehend its implications.

The last unclaimed pair
A Florida rabbi on vacation with his family visited a store that sells unclaimed airline baggage in Scottsboro, Ala., on Tuesday, looking for some cheap cell phones. Instead, he made the religious discovery of a lifetime: seven pairs of tefillin, the small Scripture-filled boxes which observant Jews wrap around their arm and perch on their forehead during morning prayers. “I was very surprised,” Rabbi Uri Pilichowski recalled.
HELP! HELP! HELP! Hashovas Aveida!

We went to a store today in Alabama that sells unclaimed baggage from all over the world.
We found Tefillin!!! People are missing their tefillin!
Most were probably left on airplanes or at airports.
Please send on all around the world and if these tefillin are yours please email pillows123@gmail.com to claim them!

The White shul sends delegation to be Menachem Avel 3 famallies in EY- read about achdus trip of Satmar chosid and tattooed teen from seattle

Rabbi Shay Shachter at nichum aveilim
The White shul in Far Rockaway, NY sent a delegation  to the families of the three murdered teens H'yd. Here is a first hand account from rabbi Shay Schachter.
שלום וברכה מארצנו הקדושה,

I honesty do not know where to start.
Driving to the airport on Wednesday afternoon, I was filled with sadness and incredibly broken spirits. I have never been so sad to be visiting Eretz Yisrael in my life. I was feeling uncomfortable on so many different levels; will my presence be of any significance or meaning to these most beloved families? Will they just look at me as yet another representative, from just another organization, who is "paying his dues" by passing through their grieving home? Will I even have a chance to explain where I come from, that I have come to mourn with them, and convey some of our collective thoughts and feelings of their brothers and sisters in America?
But after all, I was chosen as our "shliach tzibbur", to deliver a piece of our heart to the Shaer, Frenkel and Yifrach families respectively; so the answer had to be to go, and to make the very best of this most unfortunate trip.

Getting stuck on the JFK runway for close to two hours, I said to myself; this special trip is starting off drastically differently than I had expected. I was meant to land at 12 PM in Tel Aviv, go directly from the airport to meet up with Rabbi Weinreb from the OU, and visit the families; and this plane delay would now throw off the entire Israel arrangement.

But boy was I mistaken. This was a trip that will be etched in my mind for all posterity. It was the most inspiring and uplifting trip I could have ever made, and I simply have to share my feelings with the tzibbur, who felt the grave importance of sending a shul representative.

In the middle of our flight, the stewardess began to speak with me, and we got into a very pleasant conversation. She then inquired when I was planning to return back to the States, and I said I would only be staying until until after shabbos, and I would then be returning home. She said "just four days? What kind of trip is that?" And I proceeded to tell her that I was sent by our shul to visit the three respective families, to deliver our beautiful letters, and to let them know that the affection of their beloved brothers and sisters in America, knows no bounds.

She immediately began to cry uncontrollably, and said, this kehillah of yours is something unique and something incredibly special. For you to get on the flight is no big deal; but this speaks volumes about your kehillah, that this is what they feel is important. This is where their hearts are, and this is what is occupying their minds - how incredible!

So the stewardess proceeds to make an announcement in tears, to a plane filled almost to capacity with Birthright groups; "Rabotai! We have on our plane, a shliach Mitzvah! Come meet a Rabbi who was sent by his Kehillah to perform the great mitzvah of nichum aveilim, for those whom they feel are their own brothers and sisters! Our plane is safe because we have a shaliach mitzvah on board with us!"

This led to a whole pandemonium, and after I finally got to sit down again, the young man next to me informs me that he is 26 years old, from Seattle Washington; he works in a national zoo, and is going to Israel for his first time.

He then proceeds to tell me that he was so inspired by our kehillah, and that he would like to borrow my Tallis to do a mitzvah that he has not done since his Bar mitzvah celebration (at age 16) in memory of the three precious neshamos.

I gladly gave him my tallis and then proceeded to ask him if he knew how to recite a bracha. He said "sure I do", and went on to take out a small piece of paper from his pocket, and recited the "Tefillas Haderech". This was the one and only Hebrew Bracha that he was familiar with, so he decided to recite it as well on the Tallis.

He then asked to borrow my Tefillin as well, which was followed by a long conversation with the other members of the plane, who were all taking pictures of this highly unusual scene.

But that wasn't it; after a few minutes he turns to me and says "Rabbi, I am so inspired, but in Seattle Washington we don't have these boxes. But I want to continue to do something special for these three precious souls, even after I return home. So what would you suggest I do?"

I was in complete shock, and overwhelmed with emotion, so the Satmar Chassid in the next row turns to this tattood and pierced young man and says, "Sweet Jew, if you promise me you will try and wear these Tefillin each and every day, I promise I will have a pair sent by FedEx to your home in Seattle Washington by the time you get back from Israel!" They then exchanged phone numbers and information, and the deal was done.

Now I ask you, is Klal Yisrael anything short of amazing and absolutely incredible? Look what our Kehillah alone has already accomplished! I almost felt like taking the next flight home, and calling this trip the greatest success I could have ever imagined!
But things only continued to became more and more meaningful as the day went on.
I landed in Eretz Yisrael over two hours late, and had already missed two out of the three homes that the OU was planning to visit.

So I met them on the way to the Shaer home which is located in Talmon, a neighborhood of 280 families, which is surrounded on all sides by Arab Villages.

We arrived there at 3:30, and were told by the Policemen, that the family was resting until 5:30. So the OU van decided to leave, but I chose to stay and wait it out.
So there I was, alone, in a far flung Yishuv that I have never heard of, drenched with sweat, with not a living person in sight, in any direction.

I begin to walk around looking for a Beis Midrash, and after about a minute, a women walks out of the Shaer residence, and I sheepishly asked her, "By chance, do you speak English"? And she says, "Yes, I am from the States, but I live in Talmon for over 20 years? How can I help you".

I said, "Well, I just came from the airport, I haven't eaten or drank anything, as I had a last minute flight, and they would not provide me with food on the plane, and I am feeling very disoriented..." She then invited me into her home, quickly served me a beautiful platter of fresh fruit; gave me a tour of the local shul and mikvah, acquainted me to the local shomrim and Chayallim, and proceeded to introduce me to many of the local families on the Shaer's block as well.

One after the other, families began to break down crying, as they heard that a guest had arrived from America to share in their pain.

But I watched as these incredible families, walked up and down the streets with bottles of water, delicious cake platters, freshly diced fruit, tuna and egg sandwiches, and everything else you can possibly imagine; offering the crowd that was beginning to form outside of the Shaer residence. Their outpouring of love was quite overwhelming to watch, and it is something that is so hard for me to properly express in words.

Signs were posted by a table at the entrance to the door, asking all visitors to write down what services they might be able to offer the family in the coming months, and when they would be available to render them. A plumber wrote that he has off on Wednesday's and would be happy to help them should they ever need. A therapist wrote that any day after hours they could feel free to use her services. A young teenage girl from Beit Shemesh wrote that she has the summer off, and would be happy to entertain anyone in the Yishuv who was busy caring for the Shaer's during this tragedy, and the list went on and on and on.

Politicians began to gather and many people could be seen waiting for the Shaer's to reopen their doors. Fellow school friends of Gilad began to recount stories of his youthful personality, but after just a few minutes, Mr. and Mrs. Shaer asked that people please make way for the Kehillah who has sent someone all the way from America to visit, "we want to hear from him; his visit means the most to us right now; though we may be closer to many of you sitting in the room".

I then received the most warm, gracious, gentle, and highly emotional embrace from Mr. Shaer, who was completely overcome with shock by our Shul's gesture.
The room grew silent and we began to speak with one another; I then proceeded to present the letters from our shul, which threw the room into a complete hysteria, and Mrs. Bat Galim Shaer began to speak with me about her feelings of love for our Kehillah.

Although there were numerous signs posted, that no pictures be taken at the shiva house, Bat Galim encouraged her friends and relatives, to take pictures and share them with both her family and our Kehillah, so they would remember, and that we would be able to see how much this special visit meant to them.

Surprisingly, she then proceeded to personally address our wonderful shul on video as well, and asked her friends to share her personal message with our shul via email before Shabbos; so we could all appreciate the Shaer family's tremendous appreciation, love and incredible sense of strength that they felt by our gesture.

I then traveled to Nof Ayalon to visit the Frankel family. I got to speak very personally with both Mr. and Mrs. Frankel, and they too were overwhelmed with our sense of connection and achrayus to Am Yisrael and its terrible tragedies.

Mrs. Frankel then said, "Rabbi, it is not only you who feel it for us, you don't even know how deeply I personally feel a connection to your shul. The Torah that you teach in The White Shul, I know you don't know, but I follow and listen to the shiurim on YUTorah, and I can't tell you how special it is, that one of my personal Rabeim has come from abroad to share this difficult time with me".

Mrs. Frenkel then told me that when Ambassador Dan Shapiro, came to speak with her last week about the continued mission to rescue her son, he said, "for an American citizen, nothing will stop us". To which she responded, "It makes no difference if my son is American or Israeli. If all three are not being equally emphasized, then I want none of them back. Klal Yisrael is Klal Yisrael!"

Being more familiar with America and the English language, the Frenkel's spent time reading the package of letters that were presented, and found many of them to be incredibly heartwarming.

And finally I visited the home the Yifrach's in Elad. A complete mob scene, I was brought directly to meet with Mr. Yifrach who stood up in the overly crowded tent, and tightly hugged, kissed and cried on my shoulder. He asked that our Shul consider joining their family when they make their next Simcha, so we not only connect with this special family under these circumstances, and that we always remember that life is usually, supposed to be filled with, and revolve around "Simchat hachayim".

I was then brought to meet with Mrs. Yifrach who was inside the house, and she asked that I share her personal wish with our shul. On Erev Shabbos, at 19:00 p.m. Israel Time, there will be close to one million Jews around the world, participating in a רגע של חסד.
Throughout Eretz Yisrael and various communities, people will be setting aside sums of money for tzeddakah, in the memory of the three precious kedoshim, the three pure and untainted souls. She begged that our Shul sincerely commit to join this meaningful campaign, and asked that when setting aside these monies we recite גדולה צדקה שמקרבת את הגאולה.

She begged, that her beloved brothers and sisters join with her as well going forward, to make this worldwide campaign of chessed, a most successful and life changing one, in memory of Naftali, Eyal and Gilad.

What more is possibly left to say other than מי כעמך ישראל on so many incredibly beautiful levels. מי כעמך ישראל, who feel such a strong bond and connection with one another.
מי כעמך ישראל who stay committed and so incredibly strong at times of utter and complete devastation. מי כעמך ישראל who are willing to bat for one another at any cost, and are so overwhelmingly kind to those whom they have never, and perhaps will never meet! מי כעמך ישראל who have families the likes of the Frankel's, Yifrach's and Shaer's; families who talk about their most beloved Father in Heaven who is so deeply rooted in their respective hearts, minds and souls. מי כעמך ישראל who will pledge to join together to make our world a more meaningful and wholesome place to be.

I say a personal thank you to the most incredible Kehillah that I feel blessed to be a part of, for your abounding love and care for every single last member of Klal Yisrael. Our Rabbi, Rabbi Eytan Feiner has taught us all in so many different ways, to appreciate and value the contributions of each and every member of our own tzibbur and of Klal Yisrael in general. This gesture was yet another incredible display of how successful our Rav Shlit"a has been in educating us all, to be from the most sensitive, most loving, most caring, and most compassionate Kehillah.

May Klal Yisrael know no more suffering, and may the coming weeks and months only bring בשורות טובות, ישועות ונחמות, בביאת גואל צדק במהרה בימינו אמן ואמן.
בריחוק מקום ומקירוב הלב,
Rabbi Shay Schachter

What happened to our Busha that Bilam saw in us?

One of the three defining characteristics of Klal Yisrael is, we are bayshanim, we are easily embarrassed."Mah Tovu Ohalecha Yaakov" The gemara Bava Basra (60a) says that this refers to the wonderful homes of Bnei Yisroel whose doors do not directly face each other and are the epitome of Tznius, modesty and refinement, which Bilam saw and marveled at. The Internet  in general and social media in particular have caused many to unmask the busha from themselves. They do so by publicizing anything and everything about their private  and personal life. Its all out in the open for the world to see. We are living a life, where every random thought gets tweeted and each action is photographed and shared with friends who vote to like it.

A new recent phenomenon is taking place  which until now has never been an accepted behavior by the frum torah yeshiva world and especially by the Chasidish crowds. I'm talking about frum couples posting pictures of themselves. Not just a regular picture, but pictures showing affection.

Pictures of chiba, weather they are touching each other, holding hands, hugging, or other poses that are not to be for the public to see and considered Chiba b'rabim. Yet, young frum couples innocently upload these pictures  on facebook for all to see with out any busha. It can be the private pictures of the Chasunah or of a recent vacation. This is not happening by the modern orthodox crowd, it is by the yeshivish baal habatish and heimish crowd. Take a look at your friends facebook page and many are posting  images which is purely Chiba berabim. Never have people in previous generations publicized such pictures of themselves outside of their home.
A frum photogropher recently launched a contest on Facebook asking couples to upload a picture of themselves, and the one with the most likes gets a free couple photo shoot. Have we no shame ?? We are voting on a picture of Chiba berabim in a contest? Is this the norm. What happened to our busha? Our sensitivities have been dulled, our busha unmasked. At this time of let us daven that the the mask of busha be put back on our face.

Radio show invites bloggers for their opinion on Satmar rebbe's remark

The Talkline communications network in its flagship Radio program covered the remarks made by the Satmar Rebbe following the murder of the 3 bachurim hy''d. Many questioned the timing of the comments as well as the comments itself. One would expect a prominent Rabbi or official spokesperson as the guest on the show when discussing the issue. But recently TCN has invited bloggers, self appointed reporters with no backing or any credibility as the ones to give an opinion or debate an issue. They have become the go to guys to take on any Rabbi or issue pertaining to the klal. A show with a large frum audience deserves a better professional interview than bloggers who are not appointed or representing anyone.

Followers explain Satmar Rebbes remarks about murdered Kedoshim hy''d- Timing of comments due to revenge attack

After causing major outrage throughout the Jewish world with remarks blaming the parents of three
Satmar Rebbe R' Aharon Teitelbaum
murdered Israeli teens for their deaths followers of Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum - leader of one of the two branches of the anti-Zionist Satmar hassidic sect - on Sunday sought to justify their leader's position. They first explained that following the murder of the arab teen on Wednesday "But because of the murder of the Arab boy and the fears of revenge around the world, the rabbi made an exception and discussed what is happening in the Land of Israel on the second day of mourning."

According to a senior member of the group, Teitelbaum was aware of the negative impact his comments would have, but "in the wake of the outpouring of sympathy and care for the three kidnapped teenagers, he felt he had no choice but to set the record straight with his own students."

Speaking to students in his yeshiva in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, Rabbi Teitelbaum said last week that instead of eulogizing their sons at the their funeral last week, the parents of Eyal Yifrah (19), Naftali Frenkel (16), and Gilad Sha'ar (16) should have instead "said viduy [confession] with tears, in the nusach [style] that is used on Yom Kippur, to repent for their decision to live and learn Torah in a place of barbaric murderers."

Teitelbaum said that the parents were guilty of "living among known murderers" by living in the "settlements," stemming from the "evil inclination and the desire for Jews to inhabit the entire State of Israel. it is incumbent upon us to say that these parents are guilty," he continued, condemning Zionists who "place the lives of the Jewish people at risk for the sake of Zionism" as "enemies of the Jewish people."

The comments elicited sharp criticism from all corners of the Jewish world, including many Orthodox rabbis from the Lithuanian and hassidic communities. Even leaders from the other branch of the Satmar dynasty distanced themselves from Teitelbaum's comments.

But according to a senior member of the Satmar movement, Teitelbaum felt he had no choice but to make the comments.

Speaking to the Kikar Shabbat web site, the senior Satmar hassid said that "the Rabbi was not trying to change the opinions of the settlers who would do anything for the 'completeness' of the Land of Israel. He was speaking to his students and wanted to make sure they understood that despite the prayers and sympathy that erupted throughout the Jewish world for these youths, the students were liable to think that these teens were somehow 'sanctifying the Name of Heaven' (Kiddush Hashem)," considered a very positive act. This was not the case according to Teitelbaum, he claimed, and he wanted to make sure that his students understood this.

In the past, a leader like Teitelbaum would have waited until some time passed – and some of the edge was taken off the pain – before making such comments. But today, with news traveling to all corners of the world in an instant, said the senior Satmar member, Teitelbaum felt that he had to make his comments immediately.

"The Rebbe's philosophy is that a mistaken idea could take root quickly, so we have no time to wait," he said. source INN

Now you know why many towns require an ishur for meshulachim. A savvy crop of panhandlers has been donning long skirts and head coverings to beg from Hasidic Jews in South Brooklyn neighborhoods before sabbath and religious holidays.

Armed with a few Hebrew words like “shabbat,” “shalom” and “tsedaka,” the word for charity, the impersonators stake out popular food markets.
“They go, ‘Sedaka.’ They’ll push a child in a carriage. A lot of non-Jewish people can’t pronounce the ‘T’ and the ‘S’ [in ‘tsedaka’], so you know they’re not Jewish,” Bernard Vei, 56, an Orthodox Jew, told The Post.

“We’re good people; we always give. That’s the problem — they think we have all of the money in the world!”
A young woman wearing a snood on her head approached a Post reporter last month on Coney Island Avenue in Flatbush with arms stretched out, saying, “Tsedaka.”
When the Hebrew-speaking journalist asked if she spoke Hebrew, she looked confused, said “Jewish,” then ran off.
Another panhandler, Vincent Maurizio, 47, who has begged at 13th Avenue and 43th Street in Borough Park for 18 years, said he collected $750 last month over the seven days of Passover.

Agudath Israel of America statemant on arrests in murder of arab boy

Reports of arrests of members of the Jewish community in connection with the recent murder of an Arab youth, Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir, should fill us all with revulsion.

The Jewish faith does not tolerate violence other than in self-defense and condemns murder as a grave crime.  To take the life of an innocent human being is not only an indefensible, evil act but, here, brings our people down to the level of our most implacable and cruel enemies.  It is a chillul Hashem, a desecration of G-d's name.

The entire Jewish world was plunged into mourning at the news of the three innocent Jewish teens who were murdered several weeks ago by as-yet unapprehended parties.  And mourning was, and is, the proper response of individuals to such crimes, not misguided attempts by vigilantes to exact "revenge," which is the Creator's to dispense.

May the families of both the murdered Jewish boys and the murdered Arab boy be comforted.  And may governmental authorities successfully bring all the murderers to the justice that can be meted out in this world.

We beseech the Creator, the One who "makes peace in His heavens," to send us the day soon when peace will reign over the Holy Land.

American Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah Of Agudath Yisrael issue call for Tefillah due to events unfolding in Eretz Yisrael

Events currently unfolding in Eretz Yisroel demand our tefillos on behalf of all our fellow Jews who are privileged to live on holy soil.  Our rabbinic leadership has asked us to convey that simple, stark but urgent message to all of our constituents and supporters, indeed to all caring Jews.

As has been the practice in many shuls over past years, in response to the call of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, the recitation of Tehillim (Psalms) 83, 130 and 142 after Shacharis, followed by the tefila of Acheinu, is recommended.  Indeed, our every prayer should include entreaties on behalf of our fellow Jews in Eretz Yisroel. May our tefillos be received in mercy by Hakodosh Boroch Hu, and help usher in days of peace and security.

 Three Chasanim -chosson tish
Talk about a shidduch puzzle, this is what took place last night in Monroe, NY when three Satmar families all made shidduchim with each other on the same day. The Kohn, Philip, and Gross families matched three boys and three girls in a triple shidduch. A joint vort took place for the three engaged chasanim and kahllas where many came by to wish mazel tov to the three Satmar mishpachos. This is not uncommon among chasidim.
Heres the breakdown.

Letter from American Roshei yeshiva
The Roshei yeshiva acknowledge is it generally not for them to get involved in what is going on in EY, never the less due to the current matzav and events taking place in klal yisrael they can no longer remain silent. The churban and machlokes that is ripping apart yeshivos and kolelim can no longer go on. We can not have destruction, divisiveness and splits among the yeshiva world. Its bad enough there an assault on Torah Jewry and redifas hadaas from the outside we dont need an additional split and fire from within. How will the younger generation merit to grow with such an atmosphere of machlokes the letter asks. There was always differences of opinions among the gedolim but at the same time there was shalom among each other and their talmidim. We call in the name of all Roshei yeshiva in the diaspora and chutz laaretz to do whatever it takes in bringing an end to this bitter machlokes to stop this plague and restore shalom and achva to klal yisrael.

The interlopers- Churban of the internet part II

A blogger from Chicago, a Rabbi out in the west coast, a open orthodoxy activist, would have never stuck their nose in matters and issues that are not local to them. The internet has deleted the word "local" out of the dictionary. Prior to the web, it was not found that an outsider would give his deah or say opinion on a matter or a minhag that does not pertain to him. If one had a sichsuch with someone or if there was a community split over an issue, the parties involved were familiar with each other. You always knew who you were dealing with. That has changed with the interloping bloggers and clueless activists patrolling the world wide web for any issue they hashkaficaly oppose. Its long reached a point where you do not have to read their posts to know what type of silliness they are going to write they are so predictable.
previous post-  Churban o the Internet part I
The tzaros caused by these outsiders meddling on issues they know nothing about is beyond comprehension.
A recent example, a Chovevei Torah activist penned a essay about the current situation with East Ramapo school district. His piece was riddled with factual errors and misrepresentations, he has been proven to know absolutely nothing about the goings on. He was ripped apart on the air by the current school Board members of the district. Yet the damage was done. All it did was fan the flames and make more tzaros for those looking to fix a broken system.

Same with the frum bloggers who look for any news article about yidden which in their small mind they cant understand and they put in their two cents. What gives a Modern orthodox blogger from Chicago or Rabbi with a small shul on the beach, the right  to butt in on an issue that does not pertain to their own kehilla. What gives people a right to question the minhagim and derech of Satmar or Lakewood or any chasidus that only pertains to these kehillos who follow their leaders.

The churban of these interlopers and yentas has created a huge chilul hashem by feeding their stories to the national media who in turn take the opportunity to make light or make fun of  Frum yidden make fun of the Torah. Its time for these ignorant interlopers to go back to their natural habitat.

Frum facts that some did not know

When frum people are painted as extremists and fanatics its not surprising when with a little research you come to see that Charedim actually do not live in a cave. An article in commentary magazine about charedim and frum communities in the USA shows that diversity exists among the Charedim. Living among the frum these facts are not news, but when your opinion of frum yidden is based on the portrayal in the secular Jewish media it could not be further than the truth. Read article HERE
Here are some "surprising facts"

-Armed with professional degrees, Yeshivish men and women are entering once forbidden fields—law, accounting, pharmacology, psychology, corporate business—that bring them into increased contact with other sectors of the Jewish population.
-Hatzolah ambulance drivers don’t check the pedigree of people needing hospitalization, any more than Chaverim only help Haredim locked out of their cars. The most famous “store” giving away free clothing, Bobbie’s Place in Flatbush, serves Haredim and non-Jews in the neighborhood equally.
-As many as 20 percent of students at the Lakewood yeshiva Beth Medrash Govoha were raised in non-Haredi homes. And Lubavitch too has attracted significant numbers to its brand of Hasidism.

Statement From Agudath Israel of America on Recent Anti-Semitic Incidents Across the Globe

As Israel applies itself to the task of rooting out terrorists in Gaza, and destroying their tunnels and rocket launchers, there have been, as always when Israel acts to defend herself, condemnations of her effort to protect her citizens from an enemy bent on murdering them.
Seizing on the tragic consequences of even as just a war as the one Israel is conducting against Hamas, the condemners vehemently protest Israel's actions - and, in the time-honored tradition of Jew-hatred, wax violent against Jews, wherever they may be.
And so, we have come to witness over recent weeks hatred and violence directed toward Jewish communities in France and other countries. Such incidents are reminiscent of an earlier, darker time in our history when hatred of Jews was openly and unabashedly expressed both verbally and physically. Witnessing these attacks today is a stark and chilling reminder that the scourge of anti-Semitism remains a malignant reality in the modern world.

Without questioning the sentiments or actions of the French government, or of the other governments involved, the fact that these incidents have primarily taken place in Europe, where just decades ago many "ordinary citizens" were complicit in the persecution and extermination of Jews, is not lost on us. Neither is the fact that these incidents come at a time of sharply rising anti-Semitism among the European populace, as indicated in various polls and studies.

The pretense that these attacks are not anti-Semitic, but merely a reaction to current events in the Middle East, is cynical and decidedly false. When a Paris mob besieges and throws bricks at a synagogue with 200 congregants inside, it is anti-Semitism. When a synagogue north of Paris is firebombed on Friday night and sustains damage, it is anti-Semitism. When a 17-year-old girl -- referred to as a "dirty Jewess" -- is assaulted on a Paris street by having her face pepper-sprayed, it is anti-Semitism. When a kosher grocery is torched in the Parisian suburb of Sarcelles, it is anti-Semitism.  When a Moroccan rabbi is pummeled into unconsciousness as he is walking to synagogue, it is anti-Semitism. When anti-Israel demonstrations in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Turkey and other countries are accompanied with calls to "slaughter the Jews," with chants of "death to the Jews," with slogans like "Hitler was right," it is anti-Semitism. Pure and simple.

We have raised these concerns with our State Department and have been assured that these developments, and their grave implications, are being taken by our government with the utmost seriousness.  We have every faith and confidence that the United States will not stand by idly and that these blatant manifestations of animus against Jews will be responded to in a meaningful and effective manner.
